As fireworks light up the Texas skies and families gather to celebrate America’s independence, our team at the Texas Highway Rangers is still on the road — helping stranded drivers, clearing hazards, and making sure folks get home safely.
But the 4th isn’t just about celebration. It’s also one of the busiest times of the year for roadside responders. With increased travel, heat, fireworks, and more distractions than usual, safety becomes even more critical. Not just for us, but for everyone sharing the road.
That’s why this year, Batgirl (our loyal K-9 companion) and I want to share a few quick reminders:
✅ Slow Down & Move Over
If you see flashing lights, whether it’s a first responder, a roadside assistance volunteer, or a stranded motorist, slow down and give us space. It's the law in Texas, and it's how you protect the lives of those who serve.
🎇 Be Firework Smart
Never light fireworks near vehicles, dry grass, or structures. One spark can lead to devastating fires, and it’s not worth the risk.
🐾 Protect Your Pets
Loud noises and sudden flashes from fireworks can cause anxiety or panic in animals. Keep your pets indoors in a quiet, secure space, and be mindful of what they’re exposed to during your celebrations.
🚗 Plan for the Unexpected
Whether you’re traveling across the state or just heading to a local BBQ, check your tires, bring water, and don’t hesitate to call for help if you find yourself stranded. The Texas Highway Rangers are always ready — no matter the time, no matter the mile.
From all of us at the Texas Highway Rangers:
Stay safe, celebrate smart, and have a Happy Independence Day.
We’re proud to serve Texans — one mile at a time.
